A joyful mood appeared across menswear and womenswear this season. For menswear, collections spell out a cautious but hopeful mood as textile directions temper relaxed tailoring looks and high-shine satins with practical linens and textured classics. While for womenswear, party and occasion looks stole the show this season. Textile directions blend versatile, timeless fabric messages that bring lasting appeal to these high-energy directions.

Womenswear

The S/S 22 catwalks were full of joyful energy, echoing the Let's Party mood for dopamine dressing now consumers have the freedom to go out and feel good. Mirroring the slow return of occasionwear, this positive escapism was expressed through versatile pieces utilising heightened colours and embellishments via extreme tactility and high-shine surfaces, and plays on sheer and opaque combinations.

As the importance of comfort and performance have been highlighted recently, the collections also emphasised tailoring fabrics suitable for business casualwear. After a break from the need for smarter tailoring, new suiting is utilising the properties of natural fibres in conjunction with the benefits of low-impact cellulosics for drape, with eco-conscious synthetics lending durability.

Peak performance styles accent how women want to dress going forward, bridging daywear and technical performancewear with enjoyable aesthetics and handfeel.

Menswear

For menswear, disrupted lifestyle factors are still defining the desire for comfort, however, resort themes provide a breath of fresh air and playful anticipation of happier times ahead. Optimistic summer stripes in sunlit tones play into the relaxed, laid-back mood and resort themes on the S/S catwalks,

While relaxed tailoring in head-to-toe sartorial coloured suits make a statement as smarten-up dressing slowly returns, designers should look to versatile and lightweight flannels, smooth worsted wool and cotton sateen to build the classic constructions with natural stretch durability and easy care finish.

Lustrous satin surfaces also appear all the way from streetwear, as high-shine surfaces reflect a growing desire for dressing up and going out.
