Joy, positivity and resilience were the key sentiments across New York, as designers celebrated the return of the first IRL shows since the onset of the pandemic. Here, our Senior Editor of The Fashion Feed, Polly Walters, calls out six not-to-miss trends from the first stop of Fashion Month.

Key trend: ’90s Minimalist

There’s no doubt that the late 1990s have heavily influenced New York designers, focusing on pared-back soft separates punctuated by clean lines and sheer fabric qualities that reveal just the right amount of skin to retain wearability.

Key detail: sheers

A key component to the ‘90s Minimalist trend, lucid sheers proved popular across New York. Develop as key layering pieces that wearers can transition from day-to-night in.

Key accessory: kidult

Playful and nostalgic, novelty shapes and kitsch motifs rendered in colourful synthetic materials and recycled plastics inject a sense of fun into S/S 22 accessories. Large-scale toy box charms are key for the childlike aesthetic.
