Los Angeles is teeming with exciting new store openings and retail experiences that build community through collaborations.

While every neighbourhood within LA has its own aesthetic, it’s a must-visit for its inspiring examples of joyful expression. Experience it throughout the city, from Venice’s laid-back feel and surfers’ paradise to the Arts District’s refined industrial aesthetic.

One of the most iconic streets and retail hubs in the city, Melrose Avenue is an essential destination for vintage collectors, emerging trends and the new Revolve Social Club. It features a cafe, beauty services, gym and store. Be sure to visit Bode’s new West Coast store for unisex clothing inspired by historical techniques and upcycling.

LA’s culinary scene continues to innovate in the health and wellness space, as well as bringing cultural traditions to the forefront in contemporary and playful ways. Head to Chinatown’s Woon for home-style Chinese food and pantry goods, or Silverlake’s hole-in-the-wall brunch spot Sqirl for inventive breakfasts and sweet treats.

Stay at the bohemian Freehand Downtown LA, which is near the new Apple Tower Theatre and the Arts District, or recharge at the luxe Santa Monica Proper Hotel with interiors by Kelly Wearstler, where you can work in its relaxed lobby and drink at its Calabra rooftop bar.

Visit Barbara Kruger’s largest exhibit in 20 years at LACMA, where her typography work, multimedia presentations and soundscapes explore how words and photographs travel through media and consumer culture. Explore The Broad in Downtown LA for thought-provoking exhibits as well as two of Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Mirror Room installations.

LA champions outdoor experiences intertwined with the arts, such as travelling music-meditation group Secular Sabbath, which incorporates multisensory practices to achieve relaxation and restoration. Enjoy pop-up restaurant Outstanding In The Field’s traditional menu in various outdoor settings, from fields and orchards to the seashore, to celebrate the land that provided the harvest.
