WGSN Global Fashion Awards 2014 opens for entry

New focus on breakthrough talent and innovation as well as a new venue revealed for 2014 event
WGSN has announced its Global Fashion Awards 2014 are now open for entry and has revealed the location and date for this year’s ceremony; 13 November 2014, Saatchi Gallery London.

Now in their fifth year the awards, staged by the world’s leading trend and style forecaster, celebrate and reward “what’s new and what’s next” in fashion in on a global basis. Categories range from best design talent through to best new retail concept and digital innovation.

New awards for 2014 include the breakthrough designer categories (in menswear, womenswear and footwear & accessories), best digital innovation, as well as best new retail concept. The awards will continue to recognise excellence in design across a range of specialist categories from womenswear to kidswear, sports/activewear and intimates & swim, while a new category for best design collaboration has been added.

“We are sharpening the focus on innovation and newness this year. We really want the awards to be a true global showcase of the most inspiring examples of boundary-shifting fashion and retail design,” said WGSN Global Fashion Awards director Lauretta Roberts. “We also want these awards to reflect the best that fashion has to offer from the mass-market through to high-end luxury as that is what makes our event truly unique.”

Once again WGSN will be bringing one of its key autumn “Macro Trends” to life at the event. This year’s theme is “Rendering Reality” (explain) and attendees can expect to be submerged into a 360-degree experience of this trend from the event production to the food and even the smell.

“Saatchi Gallery is the perfect location for bringing this trend to life and for holding such a premium event,” added Roberts. “It is a very grand setting, surrounded by inspiring retail, but inside it is a modern blank canvas against which we can literally project our creative direction. It is also one of the world’s most celebrated homes of innovative contemporary art, which feels very fitting.”

Entry to the WGSN Global Fashion Awards is free of charge and the awards are open to all fashion businesses and designer, large and small, across the global. This year’s entry deadline is 20 June 2014 and entries should be submitted via the official website at www.globalfashionawards.com

The awards will be judged by an elite panel of global experts in the fields of design, retail, digital, styling and writing. This year’s panel will be announced next month. Past winners of the WGSN Global Fashion Awards include Nicholas Kirkwood, Acne, NET-A-PORTER, & Other Stories, Sweaty Betty, PrincesseTam Tam, Tsvetnoy Central Market, G-Star and Gandy’s Flip Flops.
