Spanish retail giant Zara has opened a new flagship store at the eastern end of Oxford Street, bringing its total number of stores on the street to a record-breaking five. At 4,500sq m, it’s also one of the largest Zara stores in the UK and carries the complete men’s, women’s and kidswear collections across four floors.
The store design of the new space aims to reflect the younger, more dynamic area around Tottenham Court Road, using industrial lighting, exposed ceilings and brushed concrete walls. Space between clothing rails reveals the building’s glass exterior, designed to connect the store with the street outside. Spotlighting and a neutral backdrop help the product to take centre stage, which is displayed in the retailer’s signature outfit merchandising concepts.
The new store is also fully sustainable, with 30% less energy consumption than a conventional store.
The eastern end of Oxford Street is currently undergoing extensive regeneration in time for the opening of Crossrail: Primark was the first mass-market retailer to move in to a prime spot opposite Tottenham Court Road, soon followed by Office and Accessorize, which is just next door to the new Zara flagship.
