If you are on the lookout for the must-have items for your 2017 wardrobe, we’ve got you covered. Our WGSN Catwalks team have analysed the catwalk, global street and used their key trend predictions, to highlight three key pieces that you’ll need in your wardrobe this season, with a focus on innovative design details for this season.
Check out our key items below:
1. Oversized shirt
This popular item works because it’s so versatile and offers up easy styling options. The shirt emerges as the key item for early spring deliveries. Designers rejuvenate the classic shirt and adapt oversized proportions and elongated sleeves to bring a contemporary feel to silhouettes. Menswear-inspired shirting fabrics create experimental silhouettes with a wide commercial viability.
While nearly all designers showcased this look, relatively new brand Monse (set up by the current co-creative directors at Oscar de la Renta) is known for championing this look in a fresh way.
2. Slim trouser
Balancing out the oversized silhouette on top, the skinny trouser (slim, high-waist) emerges for 2017. The skinny trouser had been gone for a minute thanks to casual and relaxed trend we were seeing, but now its having a resurgence. Things have smartened up a bit on the catwalk, the blazer is back too, highlighting a smartening up of the current aesthetic.
3. Mismatched statement earrings
Last season’s statement earring was all about one earring (as if you had planned to lose the other side of the pair) but this season sees the look evolve to mismatched earrings for SS17. The look was spotted at Mulberry, JW Anderson and Rodarte.
