It’s about time kids were taken more seriously in the high-end design world… well, their clothes at least. Last Sunday, it was fun and refreshing to see Yohji Yamamoto become yet another fashion designer to throw his hat into the childrenswear ring at the recent Y-3 fashion show. Providing a sneak peak into the upcoming kids line, a handful of children’s looks were shown during the runway presentation, even accompanying Yohji himself for the show’s conclusion. They marched around the Manhattan pier, where the show was set, in shrunken versions of characteristic Y-3 fashion, which meant functional layers of sportswear in serious black and sharp accents of white, and full of street-tough attitude. When your kid starts taking cues from the premier master of active fashion, it’s time to re-evaluate your own weekend choices in order to keep up.
