RETURN TO FORM
New York: For S/S 13, Yigal Azrouël surprised his followers with an uncharacteristically minimal offering. The detached hoods and organic silhouettes were quite the departure for a designer who had previously been known for his straightforward sportswear. The first few looks of his Pre-Fall collection – black and stark white separates in precise shapes – hinted that designer might continue his exploration of minimalism. But he quickly shifted back to less challenging territory. Tailored trousers, peplum tops, and slim-fitting sweaters made up the bulk of the offering. There were also shaggy dyed furs and alluring body-con dresses featuring power mesh panels to help create their hourglass silhouettes. A pair of angular leather jackets provided an edgy element. In all, it was a confident return to form, with a few nods to the minimalist aesthetic seen in his Spring collection, making for a smooth transition.–Joanna Manganaro
