New York: For F/W 12, Yigal Azrouël channeled the shy demeanor of French chanteuse and style icon Françoise Hardy with a collection clean, covered-up looks. Simple straight skirts, boxy blouses and tapered pants had a decidedly Parisian slouch, while sculpted wool dresses felt modest yet sexy. Outerwear presented many options — sporty hooded parkas, sleek shawl collar coats and luxe full-full fur styles. Structured materials, like compressed wool, played a key role in maintaining the rigid shapes, while supple leather in refreshing tones of cranberry and forest lent a relaxed air to tailored separates. —Anna Jane Davis
