With Just a little over 100 days until World Cup 2010 the collaborations have already begun to come fast and furious. Recent days have Nike and Lakai unleashing full World Cup lines, while Reebok puts a WC2010 twist on its aptly named Classic. Finally what would the biggest party in the world be without a little music, never fear AKON is here.
Nike has gathered Designers and Artists from around the globe to find ways to visually represent their given homelands. Each line features a range of hoodies, Tees, track jackets and footwear for both men and women. Countries included in the series are England, USA, France, Brazil, Holland and 2010 hosts South Africa. We especially love the range of French inspired designs by So Me of Ed Banger Records fame, the Dutch looks by graffiti artists DELTA and the versatile tank top by South African designer Kronk.
In an equally targeted, yet understated style Lakai footwear has issued a series of World Cup themed skate shoes. Lakai takes its turn with the already popular soccer x skate concept and has these football inspired designs for 2010. Featured below is Guy Mariano’s tribute to both his heritage and current World Cup Champions Italy. Additionally Spanish and French color themes are available.
It is often hard to update a CLASSIC, but Reebok manages to pull it off. The results of this rethink are simple and visually balanced. Brazilian team colors are added smartly, while Cup victory stars and WC2010 dating give the project just the right amount of detailing.
Last but not least is pop-hop star AKON has released the World Cup anthem entitled “ Oh Africa “
