WOODWARD: Eastern Expansion

On May 15, 2010, Camp Woodward celebrated its international expansion with a huge grand opening party at its new Beijing location. Skaters Tony Hawk, Ryan Sheckler, Neal Hendrix, Zered Bassett, Joey Brezinski, Billy Rohan, Brandon Biebel, Renton Millar and Jimmy Carlin, as well as BMXer Dakota Roche and Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson participated in the festivities. The celebration included vert and BMX demos, fireworks and a best trick contest – sponsored by Alli and set to air later this summer on NBC – that was won by Sheckler himself.

Prior to the celebration the skate posse toured Chinese landmarks and skatespots alike, before returning to Woodward for all-night sessions.

The Beijing facility features 410 skateable acres, including ramps, bowls, and a centerpiece 32,000 square foot outdoor skate plaza designed and built by California Skateparks and Woodward Brand Manager and legendary pro, Neal Hendrix. There’s also an indoor TF with rails, banks, hubbas, and pyramids; a multi-level mini ramp; a wooden bowl with a spine and deep end; and a giant vert ramp with resi and foam pits attached.
