Women’s clothing label, XOXO, is bringing a voyeuristic bent to the holidays with a new window display that is drawing crowds away from the family-friendly visuals at Lord & Taylor just a few yards away. Described as “window theater”, it sets up a tableau of a young woman’s apartment where two attractive models try on the label’s clothes—baring down to their skivvies several times a day– and do normal girly things like paint each other’s nails and play with make up, all in front of gawking passersby. The provocative display has been causing traffic jams at the corner of Fifth Avenue and 38th Street in Manhattan, as a crowd of mostly men strain to catch a glimpse of the exhibitionists, several with camera phones and video cameras in hand. Creative director Carol Powley is well-aware of the reception and is hoping that the peep show will inspire men to buy their girlfriends gifts from XOXO, as it continues through Dec 6th.
