Window Shopping: Prom Dresses

Things I regret about my prom outfit include: fake nails, cheap mall jewelry and suspicious looking amounts of self-tanner. What I do not regret is my choice of a dress. Strapless, floor-length grey silk with silver beading and black tulle that mimicked the night sky, it was absolutely perfect. Unless you’re a celeb, there are precious few occasions besides your prom that require formal dress, so choose wisely, because in the future you’re going to have about a million photos of yourself to deal with. If you’re a sortakindagrownup like me, this time of year can cause you to reminisce about prom dresses long past and make you wish for a red-carpet invite to satisfy your craving for formal wear. My solution? Virtual window-shopping courtesy of Stylesight’s extensive collection of Store Windows from around the world.

long dresses

Nina Ricci’s ethereal grey dress would be my number one choice, followed by this graphic number from J. Mendel. Although it’s a tad prom-y I can’t help but love the pale pink shade and drop waist on this Valentino gown. Finally, I wish someone had told me that prom dresses could be as elegantly comfy as Jil Sander’s emerald offering.

mellie, wanted to set you straight. its an empire style, you can see where that division happens in the fabric. boos to the visual merchandiser that threw it on the floor though. what’s that all about?

  • empired! i like the visual merchandising here. maybe because i hate hate hate mannequins. but i like like like both of you!

  • I totally follow you on the Nina Ricci dress: it is beyond beauty. And I envy you Americans for having prom!!!!

  • No prom? What an outrage. Throw one at your flat!
