Every little girl dreams about her fantasy wedding dress…full of volume, delicate beaded embellishments, hidden details and luxurious fabrics. Who would have thought that such a dream could be played out in the form of high-end outerwear by Moncler? Giambattista Valli’s Gamme Rouge presentation, held in the basement of the Paris Opera, was truly a magical journey complete with live horses, a snow machine and light show. Guarded by fictional historical characters from the film “Russian Ark,” standout pieces included eveningwear-inspired floor length down parkas shown in icy tones and subtle pastels. Silhouettes were exaggerated, reminiscent of 19th century bed coats and ball gowns. Modern interpretations could also be found, highlighting boat neck collars and cocoon shapes. Fur was ample and certainly not frowned upon, with over the top chinchilla accents and fox fur linings. The presentation was exactly the kind of departure from reality that so many of us are fantasizing about in this completely un-enchanting economy.
