Travel inspiration for this month

This month we are checking out new hotels with a great view, flagships with an impressive interior, a hipster Cuban restaurant and beyond. Scroll on down for the ultimate travel inspiration: to see what’s new and worth visiting around the globe.

Silo Hotel, Cape Town

Silo Square, Cape Town 8801 / 27 (0)216700500

Based in Cape Town’s  Grain Silo building, the impressive Silo Hotel is an architectural wonder of a hotel from the Royal Portfolio hotel brand. Silo boasts incredible views of Table Mountain and houses 28 guest rooms, a spa, pool, rooftop bar, restaurant and cafe in a bright, modern and airy space, exuding luxury at every level.

Valextra Flagship, Milan

Via Manzoni, 3 20121 / 39 (0)2 99786060

Luxury Italian accessories label Valextra is renowned for its yearly collaborations with various designers who revamp its Milan flagship on via Manzoni. This year, coinciding with the brand’s 80th birthday, Snarkitecture has reimagined the retail space, resulting in a fully white space, the colour represented by the brand. The floor and display tables in the store are made of fiberglass tiles mimicking stone print, while the rest of the space features low-hanging clouds made of netting fabric. The result is a futuristic, clean and contemporary retail environment.

Dig Inn, Boston

557 Boylston St MA 02116 / 1 617 904 3711

This Boston restaurant conceived by ASH NYC, with spaces originally in New York only, makes for a beautiful spot for lunch or brunch, with chairs, tables and other furnishings highlighted in pink accents and covered with marble, while Oak Wood fittings and sporadically placed plants add to the laid-back, chic aesthetic. Its healthy breakfast, brunch and dinner dishes include herb-roasted chicken breast, wild sockeye salmon and roasted kale with caramelized onions and garlic.

Media Noche, San Francisco

3465 19th Street CA 94110 / 1 415 655 3904

This new Miami-meets-Cuban restaurant is based in the hipster hood of Mission in San Francisco, boasting colourful surroundings and delicious comfort food. This comes in the form of a hot pressed Cuban sandwich comprising ham, pork, Swiss cheese, pickles and mustard on a rich brioche. Meanwhile interiors wise, the 1,500 sq ft space features colourful aqua, pink and coral decor with a flamingo mural designed by local street artist fnnch, and metallic banana wallpaper in the bathrooms. A new must-visit.

ArtInn, Shenzhen

20 Huyuan Road, Guanhu Village, Dapang Residential District / 86 180 2696 4406

In the busy and almost chaotic city of Shenzhen, find a little piece of heaven at ArtInn, a brand new hotel and cultural event centre that exudes a minimal lifestyle with pleasing aesthetics. Inside the giant white lattice structure, you’ll find rooms, a cafe and a gallery covered in white, bathing in natural light and dotted with wooden and grey furniture. The striking building resembles Sou Fujimoto’s Serpentine Gallery Pavilion and is sure to be a place to remember.

Kubic, Kaohsiung (Taiwan)

No. 5, Fuxing 3rd Road / 886 7 334 7310

Container parks aren’t exclusive to London or Seoul, because a brand new one just opened in Taiwan. Kubic is home to a handful of colourful containers, a two-storey tall slide, as well as 15 local vendors and restaurants. Shops to note include bike company Dizo and local brew label Da Jiu, and don’t miss its periodic exhibitions about local history and artists. They are also in the progress of recruiting more vendors and buskers, so be sure to keep an eye on this development.
