Clear your art and culture calendar, a new exhibition is coming this fall. WGSN is proud to announce that it will be supporting the MoMA’s latest exhibition called Is Fashion Modern?
This new exhibition will be tackling fashion’s impact in the world today. Through a series of key items, the exhibition will explore how simple and extravagant designs have transformed the fashion industry and impacted our day to day lives. Running from October 1, 2017 to January 28, 2018, “Items: Is Fashion Modern?” will showcase 111 items – from the little black dress to classic American jeans to Brazilian Havaianas flip flops- and examine their cultural and social relevance.
And of course, because at WGSN we are always looking to the future, this exhibition is the perfect way to offer context to what comes next. What does the future of design look like? What role will fashion play in the next 20 years? How will tech and clothing relate to each other. “Items: Is Fashion Modern?” will invite visitors to see the history of fashion, but also how trends evolve and why we wear what we have on our backs today.
As part of the Items exhibition, the MoMA will also be inviting designers and manufacturers to work with pioneering materials, and techniques to evolve items, such as the simple white t-shirt. With huge topics such as sustainability, tech and politics continually influencing how our clothes our made, this exhibition will shine a spotlight on the fashion industry (this timely exhibition is the MoMA’s first fashion-related exhibition in 70 years) and kick-start some major talking points. We’re seriously happy to be a part of it.
