WGSN Alternative Holiday Gift Guide 2017: Day Four

Tala

Meet Tala an eco-friendly lighting company

Tis the season to give gifts. And, this season at WGSN Insider we’ve curated a gift guide with a difference. Instead of the same old gift ideas, we’re suggesting products and brands that do more. We’ve cherrypicked the brands that celebrate kindness, sustainability and are just generally good for the environment. Less waste, more joy.

Day Four: Tala

My pick for design-led gifting this holiday season is Tala, an eco-friendly lighting company that is working to make sustainability truly desirable. At the London Design Festival this year, Tala teamed up with furniture brand SCP to install an atmospheric installation under an archway in Shoreditch. It was one of the highlights of the citywide event.

Beyond their statement installations, Tala’s products are just as stand-out. Expect beautiful lightbulbs (check out those filaments) and lighting pieces that look great in your home. The lightbulbs also pop up in some of the world’s coolest hotels and bars – all using resource-conscious LED technology. Tala focuses on sustainable and transparent sourcing, is working towards being carbon-neutral, and designs its bulbs to last ten years or more. The best bit for me is that for each 200 products they sell, they plant 10 trees. As sustainable products become just as desirable for their design as for their ethics, more and more consumers are going to buy in – and Tala ticks all the boxes, for Christmas and beyond.
