Winning the Special Jury Prize for Experimental Short category at the Slamdance Film Festival this year, filmmaker Andrew Huang’s short film SOLOPSIST is a fantastical, dream-like journey where otherworldly characters merge into one another in a convergence of the body and mind.
The experimental short uses practical and special effects to create a montage of three stories that include shots of computerized sea creatures, clothes that appear to grow around each character (designed by costume designer Lindsey Mortensen) and distorted bodies that crumble like sand, before the film reaches its climax in an explosion of color and texture as the characters and costumes merge into one. More examples of this new aesthetic for dreamlike frippery and heightened color can be seen in our Forecast for F/W 13, Marvel.
