In a two year project creative teams from both sides have taken lesser known original drawings and re-created them for a contemporary look, using modern colors, details and fabrics, in keeping with the infamous modernist Prouvé aesthetic.
A small team of 20 were involved in the project’s initial inception, including the granddaughter of Jean, Catherine Prouvé.
Seventeen pieces make up the collection in total, comprising chairs, a chaise lounge, light fixtures and wall mountings; all timeless classics, fitting of G-Star’s luxury design DNA and Vitra’s functional design manufacturing.
It’s interesting to see furniture classics such as these re-interpreted for contemporary living, and affirms the genius and versatility of Prouvé’s modern designs. For those who want to buy into a little piece of Prouvé, selected pieces will also be available for purchase on the Vitra website in the coming months. – Samantha Fox
