Visual artist Lauren Gregory has transformed musician Toro Y Moi into a multicolored, stop-motion, oil painting for his latest video “Rose Quartz.”

In a painting style that begins quite expressionist, before morphing into something more psychedelic, the video features Toro Y Moi, otherwise known as Chaz Bundick, as he rhythmically sways to the synth-heavy track, alongside his fellow band mates. According to Pitchfork, Gregory “conceptualized and directed” the video in its entirety, which included hand painting each frame.

Gregory’s painterly aesthetic is somewhat reminiscent of a trend we called out back in February in our photography report Obscure Portraits, which we named Expressive Paint.
