There’s no doubt that the five-panel cap, once beloved only by sailboat racers, skaters, 90s rappers, and military personnel, is the headwear of the moment among Young Men and Juniors. However, truly creative brands don’t rest on past achievements, so it’s no surprise to see industry leaders like DQM, Polo, and Engineered Garments investigating updates to the five-panel cap. DQM and Engineered Garments both added a loop to the fore of their caps, giving them a workwear or mountaineering feel, while the latter has also managed to keep the shape of the cap using only three panels and a fitted design. Polo has also switched the cap from adjustable to fitted using a different three-panel construction, while adding military-inspired embroidery that recalls WWII bomber jacket graphics to create a poppy take on the classic hat packed with visual appeal.
