During our recent trip to Tokyo we were on the lookout for new store openings and hot new brands, and although this awesome store opened last year in 2010, we had not visited it until last week and we loved it.
The BLUE BLUE store houses famed Japanese clothing brand, Hollywood Ranch Market’s denim line, “BLUE BLUE”. It launched in the early 80s and is one of the many off-shoots of the Hollywood Ranch Market (situated in nearby Daikanyama), founded on the brand’s love for indigo color and denim. Hollywood Ranch Market was the first to sell vintage American clothing including used Levi’s jeans in Japan. and they have a great denim following even today; the store is a must-visit for denim and casual-wear fans and enthusiasts.
The company opened BLUE BLUE KOBE (in Kobe prefecture Western Japan) in 1990, its first shop specializing in denim wear. Over the next 20 years, little by little they opened BLUE BLUE in harbor towns including Hakata, Kokura (both in southern Japan Kyushu area) and Yokohama. To show respect to their sources of inspiration, they also interspers
vintage jeans and clothes among their BLUE BLUE product.
The Tokyo BLUE BLUE store sits next to another Hollywood Ranch Market owned store, Toll Free, and is only a 10-minute walk from the Daikanyama flagship store, the beautiful Okura store, and Bombay Bazar cafe. It’s also situated close to all the other amazing stores in the Nakameguro and surrounding area, so it’s truly a ‘not to miss’ visit.
We were there to see the arrival of BLUE BLUE’s F/W 11 collection, “The Railroad Worker”, where coverall jackets, overalls, and painter pants sat next to more basic 5-pocket styles, tailored vests and button-down shirts to complete a denim work style with a formal touch. So if you’re heading to Tokyo any time soon, check out this store!
