Celebrating 125 years of breathtaking photography and thought-provoking stories this year, National Geographic has recently published a limited edition tome with Taschen, enabling readers and fans to journey through the archives of this renowned global magazine.

Called Around the World in 125 Years, the three-part book features hundreds of rare and previously unpublished photographs and visual essays, in black-and-white and color film, through to digital. According to Taschen, the books will travel in three stages around the globe and feature an extensive array of underwater and wildlife shots, beginning in the Americas and Antarctica for Volume 1, through to Europe and Africa in Volume 2, finally completing the journey in Volume 3 with an inspiring look at Asia and Oceania regions.

“Readers will discover how the magazine evolved from presenting a romantic view of the world—subjects posed and smiling—to edgier stories reflecting political turmoil, social issues, and environmental threats.”

We celebrate the aesthetics of the natural world and nature’s ecosystems in our Megatrends forecast for F/W 2015, Existence. Read more about National Geographic’s anniversary via Taschen. – Samantha Fox
