Vivienne Tam, who often draws upon her Chinese heritage for inspiration, based her entire collection around one idea: the butterfly. The winged creature, which symbolizes love in Chinese culture, was the source of all kinds of prints, from giant blow-ups of wing-markings to scattered moth motifs. Butterfly-figured lace was used for skirts and dresses. The palette ranged from soft peaches and purples to vivid turquoise and green; red-orange suede was used for fringed hippie bags that reinforced the bourgeois bohemian (bobo) vibe.
