Eastern influenced Western designer, Vivienne Tam, unveiled her first yoga collection at the Barclays Capital Grove at Lincoln Center during Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week. Partnering with Chinese athletic apparel brand, Li-Ning, Tam confidently made her debut into the athletic apparel world.
Tam promoted a harmonious relationship between style and health as twenty yogis displayed her line for this live, choreographed fashion installation. What motivated an already acclaimed contemporary fashion designer to venture into unmarked territory? Faced with wardrobe dilemmas of her own, Tam has a new focus of creating lifestyle fashion that can easily segue from the studio to the street.
“My one frustration was that I could not find athletic apparel that I could wear to the Yoga studio and then to the office or anywhere else in my everyday life. Because of this, I decided to create a Yoga Collection.”
Influenced by the positive energy found in the mixing of people and cultures, Tam’s designs reflect spirituality with her modern use of lines, refreshing hues, and lightweight layering. – Lauren Alyse Runsick
