Vintage Finds: Interesting Outerwear

It’s only September and it’s damn near 80 degrees outside, but that doesn’t seem to keep my mind from dreaming about winter coats! At Goodwill this weekend I longingly pawed through the racks, searching for that one warm, low-priced gem that would take me through the winter snows of the Northeast. My eye kept being drawn to printed, slightly off-kilter coats instead of my usual navy wool peacoat fixation, and so today I caved in and checked out Stylesight’s Vintage category for some outerwear inspiration.

It looks all boring and stolid, just a grey coat and then bam! You notice it’s covered in triangles!

Doesn’t it look like this bad larry has eyes???

I’m in love with the curved row of buttons on this nubby number.

Remember that time when ponchos were all the rage? This one from the ’70s never went out of style.

I know fur is evil and all, but this coat has TWO TAILS ON IT. TWO!

  • I too have a vintage coat addiction. I love these (minus the fur :)) especially the third one. I could wear the same outfit everyday if I could wear a different vintage coat over it.

  • Wadly Nettrham

    Sharks have two tails.

  • ummm, i have a separate closet for all of my 32 coats…and deciding to move 3000 miles away on average every 6 or so years can weigh heavily on one’s conscious around conspicuous consumption.

and the mere utterance of “this bad larry” just makes me love you.

  • wow! i feel so much better now!!!
i thought i was the only freak that owned over 5 coats…ok, so maybe i have 50 but who’s counting.

i just sold my (boring) navy blue pea coat and picked up a little 3/4 sleeve, emerald green w/black and orange plaid coat from NORDSTROM in SCOTTSDALE of all places!!(i found an orange beret a la ashlee simpson to match!)

i also might have secretly bought a burbury poncho yesterday from the thrift store for those days when i want to look 30 and successful, i have my pearl earrings on, good jeans and sexy heels… ya know what i mean??

ponchos are not over in my book!

    ahhhhhhhhhhhh, i love outerware!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • some of those coats are amazing!

  • that’s too bad you stop doing this! 🙁 hopefully you’ll be back soon:)

  • em

what am i going to do with my life if i can’t check stylesightings 90 times a day?

i suppose i’ll have to (virtually) see you around over at c’est la mode. leave me love!
