We’re loving the newest Blood Orange (Dev Hynes, Lightspeed Champion) music video doing the rounds right now – not just for the dreamy nostalgic sound, but also for his amazing `80s styling, which is so reminiscent of Neneh Cherry’s “Buffalo Stance” era and the Ray Petri scene.
To add to the coolness factor, cult musician Adam Bainbridge, AKA Kindness, took on a new role as director of this sun-drenched promo vid. They shot in a town pretty close to Dev’s heart.
“I decided to visit Georgetown, Guyana for the first time – the town where my mother is from. She has not been back for 30 years, three years before I was born. I tracked down family members, including my 92-year-old grandfather, who I had never met before. In this video you will see our first-ever meeting.”
Completing the trifecta of cool, Caroline Polachek from the band Chairlift supplied the female vocals.
This single is the first release from Blood Orange’s upcoming record Cupid Deluxe, and if this release is anything to go by, we’re pretty excited to see and hear more!
