Victoria’s Secret Show Paris 2016: Lingerie Trends

As Senior Editor of Intimates and Swim at WGSN, I spent a lot of my day looking at and designing lingerie, I’ve even written here on the blog before about what a typical day is like for me, and how to launch your own lingerie line. Right now, we’re heading into holiday season when lingerie collections get a lot of attention ( right now, and during Valentines is my moment to shine), and every year the holiday season kicks off with one special show the Victoria’s Secret Show, this year held in Paris. This is a first for the brand, the show was traditionally head in New York, before it moved to London and now Paris.

Even if you don’t wear lingerie, you can’t have failed to notice the stream of VS Angels flooding your Instagram feed, this is the Oscar’s of the lingerie world, except replace big, bold, floor-length dresses with the biggest angel wings you’ve ever seen. But while it’s a stunning spectacle that millions tune in to watch every year (and this year had everything from performances from Lady Gaga to a Bella Hadid and The Weeknd awkward catwalk moment that went viral) I was looking at one thing, and one thing only, the key lingerie trends.

Here’s what you need to know:

Nocturne/ The Twilight Hour (Dark Angel): We saw a huge focus on underwear as outerwear, so long sleeves and trousers in eyelash and scalloped lace, and lots of cut out details. There were also high necks and halter details, as well as caging and multi lace-up key shapes. In terms of colourways: the catwalk was dominated by dark shine, and shades of grey. This feeds into our current report Nocturne, as a key trend for AW17/18 (subscribers check it out in full here).

Christmas Sparkle: Tis the season for christmas Sparkle and the VS Angels did not disappoint, holiday collections are the most lucrative for lingerie brands, and so a nod to the holiday season with silver, gold, red and green is a savvy move for the brand.

Sporty pink – this is a recurring brand staple, as it continues to appeal to Gen Z with its PINK retail offering. This section of the offering was updated from last season, with even more of a focus on activewear, with sports elastic shapes and soft quilted jackets, that are comfortable but still sexy, and a nod to the personalisation trends we’re seeing in womenswear, with VS badges. Finally,  for accessories, high shine was key.
