It was a combination of signature Versace sexiness and empowering women – and it really worked. WGSN Catwalks Director Lizzy Bowring reports
Milan: For her recent collection, Seniora Donnatella sent out a Versace army, celebrating and empowering women. Portuguese deejay Violet was spinning a track made for Equality Now, an NGO dedicated to ending discrimination against women and girls and for which Versace is donating money.
Believing in the power of clothes, precisely sculpted utility jackets in green an khaki marched down the catwalk. juxtaposed with micro shorts, elastic waist belts and tough platform boots to sustain the anticipated Versace sensuality. Khaki, cotton and camouflage was mixed up with collaged animal prints in high octane colours.
Masterly techniques of crochet, torn chiffon, glazed raffia and fringed edges across thigh revealing evening dresses worked a more relaxed side of the military theme. Fabric development and skin exposure in equal proportions delivered effortless glamour for warriors in the urban jungle.
