For F/W 10, Donatella Versace wanted to revisit the iconic look her brother, Gianni, made famous in the early 90s. To a thumping soundtrack of techno beats and an environment full of lasers, models put on their best Matrix-like clothes for a season grounded in the realities of the future. Lustrous leather jackets and pants were the centerpieces of the collection, and almost every classification sent down the runway had at least one piece that sported metal studs. The predominantly black and grey collection got an occasional pop of color with electric blue leather and knits, as well as multicolored digital motifs for allover printed tees. Some of the knits contained stitched-on leather panels that added to the collection’s tough factor. Even though Ms. Versace turned her back on the more commercial, luxe versions of the Versace man from seasons past, the interpretation for F/W 10 still recalled the opulently sexy clothes for which the house is known.
