Versace’s collection read like a greatest hits of the label’s archives – chain mail, cutouts, vibrant prints, corsetry, va-va-voom hair and very, very short skirts. Donatella Versace seemed to be reminiscing about her brother Gianni’s heyday as she designed this season. Skirts and dresses covered just enough skin for a PG-13 rating, but nothing more; other pieces were in a printed transparent vinyl. Muted pastel pink and lavender mixed with eye-popping yellow and turquoise, all grounded by black, white and silver. Versace’s magic is in making these aggressively sexy pieces feel sophisticated. Her tailoring and construction, shown in skin-tight suits and elaborate corsetry, is exquisite, which brings the collection into the realm of the wearable.
