Paris: For fall, Véronique Leroy offered a softer take on power dressing. Echoing the looks in her spring collection, most shoulders were strong and extended, though some took on a more rounded shape. The foundations of the offering were wear-to-work basics, such as skirt suits, sheaths, boxy jackets, and slim-fitting coats, but innovative materials kept them looking fresh. Mesh, eyelet, bouclé, curly fur, glossy haircalf, and gilded jacquard were among the fabrics that Leroy employed. In addition to textural interest, design details were also used to set the items apart. Oversized pockets, single cascading flounces, and attached funnel neckpieces made these classic garments stand out. With a collection full of inspired and powerful basics, Leroy demonstrated that she is intimately in touch with what real women need and want to wear. –Joanna Manganaro
