The Active team here at Stylesight loves a good skate party, but what we love even more is supporting a great cause. Lucky for us, we got a little bit of both on Thursday night out in Brooklyn at the House of Vans for the Half Cab 20th Anniversary.
To celebrate, Vans held a bash that included everything from an art auction benefiting The A.skate Foundation to performances by Agent Orange, Drvnk Injvns, and G.F.P. With food carts circled up like wagons outside, skaters dropping into the bowl upstairs, and party-goers marveling in custom painted sneakers by various artists for the event… there was a ton to take in.
As many know, the Vans Half Cab came directly from skaters themselves, when Steve Caballero realized that they were taking his first signature shoe, The Cab, and cutting it into a mid top. After experimenting himself, he fell in love and the Half Cab was born in 1991. With the signature Vans waffle outsole, and large blank panels, the shoe has become a staple for collaborations and customization over the last 20 years. This shoe has lasted the test of time and trends for decades and decades to come, so it’s only fitting we pay homage to this amazing piece of skateboard history.
We can’t wait to see what Vans will do with this space next after hosting “house parties” all summer, there is sure to be more coming from this crew.
