Piggy backing on the nerd-chic movement, Vans rolls out the ‘The Sophie’ for Spring/Summer 2010. The low profile shoe pays homage to the saddle shoe, made popular by footwear brands like Brown Shoe Co. and Muffy’s. The saddle shoe actually dates back to 1906 when Spalding, the sporting goods company, began making the “original saddle oxford” as “a gym shoe” for physical education classes and indoor sports. Vans has chosen three colorways for ‘The Sophie’, combining the heritage of the brand with a minimal — slightly angular — silhouette. Whether you are going to a sock hop or a skate spot, ‘The Sophie’ provides the perfect balance of retro charm and modern moxie. Check out our Quirky Coquette Trend Tracker for additional inspiration!
