Paris…Kris Van Assche
Kris Van Assche has looked into the future before, but for F/W 09/10, his vision was straight out of an ’80s SciFi movie. The models were paraded out on the runway like urban soldiers ready for battle. The soundtrack repeated phrases like “We are in a war for your mind” and “We are the insurgents,” perhaps to remind us that every day of our lives, some kind of war (either literally or figuratively) rattles on in our world. Layer upon layer of technical fabrics was the perfect contrast against such warm and comforting items like long johns and cashmere overcoats. The volume of the pants from seasons past were snapped back to a more anti establishment slim fit. Oversized utility pockets on the pants and long tunics helped to achieve the military tone. There were even some more formal-influenced options in the form of a satin tuxedo jacket snug against the body and styled with a relaxed satin pant tucked into combat boots.
