Urban Snowboarding Comps – Only Getting Bigger

As the snow season slowly starts to begin at resorts around the globe, snowboarders are chomping-at-the-bit to finally get back on snow. Burton Snowboards has helped usher in this incredibly anticipated time of year, starting with its global tour of premiers for its promo film Standing Sideways…as well as the recent Burton Rail Days contest which took place smack dab in the middle of Roppongi Hills Arena, in Tokyo, Japan.

Non-resort, urban competitions have always been popular – on both a small scale level, like the upcoming Hermosa Beach, California Snow Fest on December 11th to the massive Big Air competitions at arenas throughout Europe. Not to mention the second ever Oakley & Shaun White Air & Style comp set to take place in Beijing, China this coming weekend on December 3rd! (More to come on that one sooner than later…)

Burton was kind enough to send over some epic photos of the event to get a vibe of how things went down. 17 riders competed in a 45-minute jam format – with the best of the best finally going against each other in a head-to-head battle.

3,000 people watched snowboarder Jamie Nicholls from Great Britain win the entire event with two super strong runs; one that included a frontside boardslide 270 out on the down rail and another run that included a frontside boardslide change-up boardslide on the down rail.
