New York: Autumn/Winter 2015 saw Richard Chai taking an extremely casual approach but at the same time, cleverly incorporating tailoring with a sporty technicality. Utility layering was juxtaposed against soft layers of long ribbed dreses and billowing pleated skirts. This layered look prevailed throughout the entire collection and felt appropriate for the imminent blistering cold NYC days. Within this lineup, lay a downtown sensibility with a technical sportiness and sharp tailoring – warm voluminous down coats were juxtaposed against pleated soft skirts, while expertly tailored wool and cotton dresses were worn underneath the luxe oversized brushed wool coats . Cashmere sweaters zipped into soft cocoons around the neck were mixed with proportional layering for style and warmth. Colours, although subdued were more on the gentle and soft side and complimented the casual ease that prevailed within this smart collection. – Lizzy Bowring
