Layering is a key look that always comes into its own during the colder months. It’s the most stylish way to look cool, AND stay warm. This season the street style is inspired by the AW16 catwalk where we saw long-over-long layers in soft luxe materials such as silk and cashmere blends. Layering also adopted the activewear influence, with relaxed wide silhouette offering a casual aesthetic with a feel-good element.

If you’re trying to replicate the runway and layer the key pieces in your closet, think about playing with textures and oversized garments. Textural definition brings multi-layered ensembles to life, helping you to push the boundaries of unexpected fabric contrasts. Lace, leather, velvet, silk, denim and wool can all be combined in a considered manner, drawing the eye to these atypically pieced and collaged looks.

As it gets colder, opt for layering voluminous knitted blazers and sweaters, elongated lofty scarfs and luxurious cashmere pants. If you layer right it can feel like the perfect cocoon for these uncertain times, and temperatures.

We scoured the globe to find the street style stars who are pulling off the art of layering perfectly:
