COZY CUT AND PASTE
Paris: In his first runway show after three years of showing his collection via presentations or private appointments, Jun Takahashi announced his return to the big stage with a literal collage of some of his greatest hits – quite a feat as his brainy, eccentric style is hard to pin down. Casual, grunge-y layers (boyfriend jeans, oversized sweaters) had a Japanese street style feel; surprise details (contrast insets or patches, construction gadgetry) referenced the deconstruction in, especially, his early work; and whimsical touches (a recurring cat motif, ostrich feather panniers) showed his cheeky sense of humor. It was far from a rehash of his past work, however, as the skillful balance between show and sensibility in the collection exhibited a new maturity for the constantly evolving designer.
