The race to the Olympics has officially begun! This past Saturday at Copper Mountain, Colorado, the first stop of the Grand Prix – which determines which men and women will go to Vancouver for the US Snowboard Team – went down with a plethora of new twists and turns (no pun intended). Shaun White took the 1st place podium seat while Kelly Clark represented the ladies, each pushing the envelope of halfpipe riding to that next tier.
Shaun’s victorious run included a frontside 900, back to back double corks and back to back 1080s. Phew! While Kelly threw down a huge frontside 900, two 720s and a frontside 500. Not so bad, eh? It seems the Olympics will be filled with corks….which has become the new benchmark of tricks to land.
Louie Vito and Zack Black took 2nd and 3rd place for men, respectively, and Gretchen Bleiler and Soko Yamaoka took 2nd and 3rd on the ladies’ side.

The energy level was high for obvious reasons throughout the weekend and lots of early anticipation for the next stop at Mammoth Mountain California. Stay tuned…
