As we usher in the new year, we stopped to take a quick glance back at Tumblr’s top fashion & style hashtags of 2013 in our Tumblr Year in Review report. 2013 was a great year for youths with a bold, adventurous and carefree sense of style. Tumblr’s feeds were jam-packed with images of crazy dye jobs, spikes, bold slogan logos and skateboarding teenagers. Here are our Top 5 favorite style trend picks on Tumblr.

1. #Grunge
A healthy dose of rebellion and stuck-out tongues spell out #Grunge as one of the most popular Tumblr style hashtag of 2013. Bleached out hair, Kurt Cobain worship, distressed denim, dirty plaid and chain-smoking bad girls define the look.

2. #Pale
#Pale is an ethereal, feminine and moody style focused on skin, photography, translucent layers and delicate objects. There is a darker side to this trend that highlights mortality, poetry and lost innocence: think teenage girl reading Baudelaire and listening to Chopin in her suburban room.

3. #Swag
The #Swag tag is all about the ultra hip downtown look packed with a fist full of attitude. This one is popular among both sexes on Tumblr who want to show off their most coveted snapbacks, new sneakers, slogan beanies, gold jewelry and plenty of Supreme.

4. #Pastel
Pink hair was the trendiest hair color on Tumblr in 2013, and this is where it lives- under the #Pastel hashtag. Saccharine yet slightly defiant, this style incorporates makeup, fashion and food into a world of colorful and childlike fantasy.

5. #Kfashion
Rounding off the countdown is the popular, yet surprising hashtag #Kfashion, proving that Korea is the reigning culture of fashion inspiration for Tumblr users. The look is defined by soft, preppy and quirky everyday looks matched with porcelain perfect skin, doll-like features and perfectly groomed hair.
