Tsumori Chisato

Tsumori Chisato Cruise/Resort 2013

Paris: Tsumori Chisato’s designs are always cheerful, but this season, they seemed downright ecstatic. Smiley faces appeared on a citron coat, daisies were printed on a pair of slim pants, and a series of childlike watercolor flowers emblazoned tops and dresses. The designer recently vacationed in Sedona, Arizona, and the sunshine must’ve put her in an extra-optimistic mood. The big desert sky and Sedona’s famous red rocks were used as a background for the collection images. Balancing out the cutesier items in the offering were upbeat basics, including a striped cotton top with petal sleeves, a billowy midi skirt and a simple sweater tank made from mélange bouclé yarns. A series of red, white and navy separates hinted at a sailing inspiration. Although Chisato’s playful designs aren’t for everyone, you can’t help but smile at her ebullient looks. –Joanna Manganaro
