Japanese designer Tsumori Chisato has been making clothes for 20 years now and showing in Paris for seven, and the designer’s mastery of her playful and girlish aesthetic continues to be perfectly on point. This season classic coquettish shapes were the platform for her signature whimsical prints. Peter-pan collared dresses, high-necked blouses, printed pants and swingy, cropped jackets were awash with zigzags, nautical stripes and folky collaged florals. Novelty prints that mixed cartoon clouds with leopard, checks that morphed into polka dots and trompe-l’œil sailor ties injected a healthy dose of humor, while fluid silky skirts and dresses and tie-front blouses added sophistication. Side-cocked sailor hats and of-the-moment cat eye glasses accentuated the bohemian and quirky looks that Chisato has come to be known for.
