As design often starts with material, the boutique trade show MarediModa/IntimodiModa that was just held in Cannes gave us an essential sneak peek into the trends we’ll be seeing in swimwear and intimates for Spring/Summer 2013. The Stylesight team curated the trend forum, as well as participated in several panel discussions throughout the event. With attendance up 16% this season and exuberant trends all around, the outlook for S/S 2013 looks very bright.
Our comprehensive 50+ page report on the trade show covering beachwear and intimates fabrics, trims and embellishments just went live and can be found here. Some highlights from the report:
Swimwear: Lightweight fabrics and innovative shaping technology create perfect silhouettes while keeping fabrics suntan- and body oil-resistant. Influences include Miami’s Ocean Drive circa 1950 and desert landscapes of the Amazon. Eye-catching fruits, 30s- sailor stripes and lush florals are among the key prints.
Intimates: Key fabric messages include clear and sheer, dimensional jacquards, dry crepe textures and shimmery surfaces. Feminine touches resonate throughout the collections, from sculpted corsets to graphic inspiration from Japanese gardens. Color and material blocking remain important through S/S 2013.
Trim/Embellishments: Arabesque scrollwork and delicate filigrees add new life to the exotic Bohemian trend. Neon fluorescents draw inspiration from Art Deco Miami, while nauticals are revisited for chic and sleek swimwear. For intimates, look towards sensuous Asian inspirations. Rhinestone hearts, delicate clovers and pastel pink bows add vintage Victorian flair.
