Tough Love

New York…Rodarte

A theme is emerging here, Monday night at Marc Jacobs and again yesterday at Rodarte; a melting pot, a witchy brew of juxtaposed materials and styles. For spring, the sisters Mulleavy did not stray far from the tone they set for Fall 08, they simply reinforced the message of last season which is to mix the tough with the ethereal. The show began with mesh, knit, mohair, chiffon and leather in a disarmingly fleshy shade of nude. Then came color, wonderful swirls of violet, orange, white, and blue for floaty chiffon dresses with chain straps. The evening versions were show-stoppers as were the accessories, fresh versions of their signature fishnets and high-off-the-ground platform sandals.
