LONDON…Topshop is an obvious winner at the retail game, conquering the hearts and minds of fickle juniors. One step beyond their standard offering, the higher priced Unique line affords the brand an opportunity to stage runway shows reaching out to a more daring customer. This season their designs may have taken the idea of vintage and retro a bit too literally, channeling a very limited and rigid ’80’s style. Rather than simply taking inspiration and pulling elements of fashion from this era, Topshop veered into costume territory, with each piece a direct copy of classic styles. Although these designs didn’t cover any new ground, juniors may respond to looks that are new to them, such as elongated acid wash jackets, heart print silk jumpsuits, zipper minis and whimsical knit tunics.
