Blessed with inspiring architecture and incredible weather, it’s not hard to see why Barcelona has emerged as one of Europe’s most popular tourist destinations. The city has a wealth of culture to offer its visitors and its vibrant vintage scene only adds to the charm of the city.

Like other major cities in Europe like London, Paris and Berlin, Barcelona has some top draw vintage stores but in Barcelona there seems to be a unique style of vintage on offer, especially denim, that you might not find in any of those other destinations.

Maybe its because the city isn’t packed with hipsters raiding the rails every weekend, or perhaps its the impeccable picking of the store owners, but for me whenever I shop Barcelona’s stores I’m always guaranteed to go home with a special edition to my denim wardrobe. Between all the neighbourhoods, the best area that concentrate’s the largest number of vintage stores is El Raval.

Throughout the narrow, winding streets in this quarter you’ll explore a great range of local stores, original shops, restaurants, and of course some bars to keep you refreshed along the way.

Here’s our top 5 hit list of store’s to shop:

1. HOLALA

HOLALA  vintage denim store

For the past 40 years Holala have been fiercely dedicated to the thing they love most: vintage. That’s why they’re the biggest and most renowned vintage store in Barcelona. Their headquarters, located at Plaza Castella, in the heart of Raval are testament to this with expansive store loaded with carefully preserved clothing, accessories and furniture from as far back as the 1950s.

Vintage Denim is not limited to jeans here, you can grab overalls, jackets and more

Imports come from anywhere between the states and Europe and their denim selection is pretty extensive with multiple rails scattered throughout the store packed with irresistible rigid denims, mostly from the 70s through to the 90s. If you’re looking for some fashion ready pieces, then this is the place.

The store have been quick to jump on a few trends like anti-fit jeans cropped with pre-cut and frayed hems as well as some awesome slouchy denim jackets and cut-off truckers . Just in time for Primavera and Sonar Festival in Barcelona next month!

Located just on the outskirts of the Raval quarter, Love Vintage is a treasure trove of vintage with denim taking up a hefty amount of space throughout the store. The stores vintage clothes are mainly from the 70s to the 90s but of course there are lots of pieces that are older too.

Throughout the rails and shelves on jeans, you’ll find classics from the likes of Levi’s, Lee and Wrangler as well as some of those bizarre retro names that emerged throughout Europe in the 80s and 90s. One tip, new clothes are delivered to the store every Monday and they’re on the rails by the afternoon so if you’re in town make sure you drop by early in the week. Follow the Love Vintage’s Instagram account, headed up and styled by the owner, to see the latest styles in store.

They originally started with a store on Avinyó street with a winning formula that saw them expand with a second store on in the Raval, close to MACBA and Holola. Its owners are a couple of musicians and they’re true vintage heads with a keen eye for rare pieces, so like me, you’ll no doubt spend a good amount of time browsing and hearing some of the history behind some unique items on offer. If you’re heading out in summer, this is the place to pick up some truly awesome vintage sunglasses. They have a mix of designer and dead stock styles in some great shapes.

If you’re looking for some bulk purchases by the bag than you need to to Flamingos Vintage Kilo. Here you can buy vintage by the weight and its not bad pricing either. Three of these are in the Raval, including an outlet shop in the Flamingos Gallery on Tallers 68 which opened in 2013.
