Committed to democratising fashion, Tommy Hilfiger delivered a show at NYFW that was a catwalk and retail extravaganza. WGSN’s Head of Catwalks, Lizzy Bowring reports
New York. All the fun at the fair with the TOMMYNOW runway show!
Tommy Hilfiger along with his ‘it girl muse’ Gigi Hadid, presented a spectacular, cohesive and smart collection. Every attention to detail was carried throughout from mini hot dogs, sizzling fries, a doughnut stand and Popsicle cart along with carnival rides, and tattoos.
The collection itself was immediately covetable, carefully designed and styled with the current season in mind. Tommy’s nautical theme played out with Hadid opening the much-anticipated show, wearing a cropped sailor jacket, knotted tank, fringe neck scarf, and skinny leather pants. From there, the collection continued in high pitch with styles ranging from statement bomber jackets, loose jeans teamed with hybrids of gym and swimwear, cropped tops, fluid floaty silk georgette pieces to Hilfiger classics of cozy track pants teamed with oversized hoodies, logo tees and thigh high ‘sockings’. Hadid’s influence was evident in feminine silhouettes and sporty, chic details. Hadid said, “A lot of it was obviously looking at vintage Tommy pieces that we love and bringing back certain things. It’s a really great mix of the classic East Coast style of Tommy Hilfiger and my West Coast style” – these clothes that will appeal directly to a modern, digital savvy crowd. It was indeed a fun ride.
The runway collection was immediately shoppable at the show using digital touchscreens, live-stream and social commerce channels.
