Tommy Hilfiger

New York: The fact that Tommy Hilfiger is a quintessentially American designer doesn’t mean he can’t look beyond the border for inspiration, and for F/W 13 he had his sights set directly across the pond. Described by the label as “Savile Row meets Ivy League,” the collection was a snappy take on menswear from both cultures, resulting in cozy co-ed knit dresses with Prince of Wales check panels, bonded Mackintosh coats and printed turtlenecks paired with retro miniskirts. The spirit of collegiate youth was palpable, regardless of its origin, in elongated polo shirt dresses, trompe l’oeil knee sock boots and cable knit caps in stark black and white. Hilfiger closed out the presentation with can’t-miss musts like creamy blousons, shearling trim pinstripe coats and a dash of cool innovation in the form of leathers embellished with an oversized cable knit relief. —Nina Stotler
