Margaret Howell’s MHL casualwear line is celebrating the recent third anniversary of its Tokyo Daikanyama store with ‘Community Mart,’ a Shibuya pop-up, opening this Saturday. Conceived with Club King, the team behind both Tokyo magazine Dictionary and the club/event space of the same name, Community Mart aims to present the MHL worldview while introducing special collaborative products produced with the ‘community,’ including Alden, Nanamica, Beauty & Youth United Arrows, and cult Tokyo interiors store Playmountain.
MHL has been a great hit in Japan since launching globally in 2003. The Daikanyama location was the brand’s first standalone shop worldwide, and its stores here easily outnumber those on Howell’s UK home turf where the designer maintains just a single shop. The brand is also very much visible on Japan’s streets right now thanks to the distribution of ‘free’ MHL-branded tote bags with Japanese fashion magazines. So if you’re in Tokyo this Saturday, be sure to check out this charming, group hug of a pop-up shop! -Darren Gore
